Renowned coastal retreat Bannisters By The Sea in the small NSW south coast town of Mollymook recently received luxury renovations to its penthouse suites by iconic Australian fashion designer Collette Dinnigan.
After 25 years in fashion, Dinnigan has shifted her focus to interior design completing the Bannisters' renovations, just five minutes from her own coastal retreat.
Completed in a Hamptons style, the renovations incorporate Dinnigan’s elegant yet relaxed feminine style. While the suites have their own character, a clean white aesthetic is prominent in both, with all-white timber walls and shuttered windows matched with customised cane furniture. They incorporate nautical-themed finishes, which match the Mollymook Beach views. In keeping with the Hamptons aesthetic, the floorboards are wooden oak.
Both suites feature hand-printed furnishings from textile designers Kathryn Ireland, Penny Morrison and Carolina Irving as well as woollen rugs by Vaughn Designs, Madeline Weinrib and Robyn Cosgrove.
The bedrooms showcase Schumacher fabrics with hand-picked touches by Dinnigan, consisting of custom lamps and chairs purchased by Dinnigan in the south of France covered in Belgium Linen in suite 30 and Velvet in suite 29.
Walking into either penthouse, you’re greeted by works of Murray Hilton and John Witizg. Capturing the emotional connection to the water seen from the balcony, Witizg’s work focuses on the surf nostalgia of the 1970’s. Dinnigan also adds a touch of personal nostalgia by hanging charts from her own family’s sailing journeys across the Indian Ocean.
