Dior's visionary floral runway

May 22, 2022

Blossom is starting to appear on trees and the days are undeniably longer. This means it's a perfect time of year to look at one of the most impressive Spring/Summer runway shows of all time. Turn the clock back to 2012 and Raf Simons debuted his first collection for the house of Dior.

Simons envisioned a venue that was equally as spectacular as the collection itself; a venue fit for his models, or in this case, his 'flower women'.This theme took inspiration from Christian Dior's famous quote "I have designed flower women".Dior was famed for introducing soft rounded designs to the female fashion market in 1947, with full flowing skirts, nipped in waists and hemlines below the knee. He wanted to make women feel like beautiful flowers. So with the focus on flowers, and the pressure to do justice to Dior's famous line, it's no wonder it took a week to dress the venue for this special event.Events agency Bureau Betak filled five rooms of a Parisian mansion with floor-to-ceiling floral walls, made up of a staggering one million blooms, from peonies to goldenrods, delphiniums to mimosas.

Simons said he wanted the show to be true to the spirit of Christian Dior, whilst being dynamic, modern and energetic.

It's certainly that. Take a look...
